My husband loves to try out new recipes and this one is definitely one of my favourites. I like my cheeseburger thin cut, with a bit of crunch on the outside but tender on the inside. My husband loves the big patty cooked rare. I always go for the 5% fat lean beef. Some say that if it is not fatty and greasy, it is not a burger and that if you don’t use at least 20% fat minced beef, you will end up with dry and chewy burgers. I disagree. If your meat is properly seasoned, your burger will be healthier and super tasty! And believe me, once you try this recipe, you will no longer need to use fatty meat anymore! No matter how you like your burger, this mouth-watering recipe will surely satisfy your family’s appetite!
Recipe for 2 large patties or 4 regular
Ingredients
400g good quality lean beef steak mince (5%)
Raw red onion rings
Wild rocket
Iceberg lettuce
2 slices of a big red tomatoes
4 slices smoked cheese
2 multigrain brown rolls
For the minced beef
Dash of Chipotle chilli flakes (optional)
Dash of sage
Dash of rosemary
Dash of smoked paprika
1/2 tsp of adobo spice
1tsp extra virgin olive oil
1tsp Worcestershire sauce
Burger Sauce Options
With the adobo spice, I like the standard mayonnaise and ketchup. But of course, you can use any sauce you like, including mustard and mild peri-peri mayo.
Method
In a bowl, add the meat with all ingredients listed for the minced beef.
Once all ingredients are mixed well, start making patties by first forming balls, and then by pressing the meat at the centre with the palm of your hand, flattening the burger until you reach your desired size.
Take a large non-stick frying pan, a grill, or a cast iron skillet and add a little extra virgin olive oil and start cooking the burgers to your liking on medium-high heat.
When they are almost done, place the cheese on top of the burgers and the rolls cut face down to warm them up.
When the cheese is melted, start building your double cheeseburger: sauce, wild rocket, iceberg lettuce, the burger with cheese melted on top, tomato, onion, second patty with melted cheese on top, extra tomato, extra onion, more sauce and your perfect burger is ready! Enjoy and let me know your thoughts about this yummy recipe. 😋
